Do you know where the wilds things go…

Ahhh downtown LA. I need to spend some more time there. Definitely tons of wild things in those parts. While Keiko and Helena were visiting, we went downtown to visit with the Corey ladies. I usually save downtown for my hair appointments, art walk, and the occasional flower crown hunt. But there really are some great restaurants and bars as well. 

I was working an event at Beauty Bar (RIP) one night, back when I was still new to town, and was given some advice: “Don’t get stuck in your bubble.” Basically, LA is made up of lots of little areas. You’ve got the west side, valley, downtown, Hollywood… and in all of those sections, there are even more smaller parts. There is so much to explore and discover. I’ll be honest, I didn’t fully listen. I’ve definitely found a few gems and just kept returning to them. But after trying all these new places while Keiko was here, I have a new mission to try even more. I want to be the restaurant expert when friends come to town. The only way to do that is to eat my way through them. And I’m ok with that!

Sleep until the sun goes down…

I woke up in a “holy crap I leave tomorrow” panic. I’m still in bed though so I can’t be that worried, right? Plus, I’m making tons of lists… in my head, on my phone, and on paper. I’ll be damned if I forget anything. 

My strategy for trips and visits has been somewhat perfected over the last year or two. I write down everywhere I want to go, everyone I want to see, and all the things I want to eat. The last one being the most important obviously. It’s been helpful for everything from friends visiting, to going abroad. I plan out my days the minute I get there, taking into account weather and when places are closed, and make sure it all fits in.

My travel buddy, Jessica, has been sort of doing this for years. Every trip we’ve been on she handed me a packet at the beginning with popular phrases, conversion rates, and places we could go. I’m trying to make one for Barcelona right now, but let’s be honest: She’s the expert. There’s going to be eight of us on this trip, so whether it’s chaotic or not, it’s going to be a ton of fun.

The mammal, not the singer…

My mama was in town for a week, partially to check out some condos in Seal Beach. The actual units left a lot to be desired, but there were bunnies hopping around, a band playing out of a truck, and I found some Girl Scouts selling cookies. Let’s just say I’m not totally writing Seal Beach off yet. 

I leave for Spain in a week and I’m currently sitting with a tissue stuffed up my nose. Really glamorous, right? My immune system is fucking with me and I don’t appreciate it. I did redo the crazy colors in my hair though, so while I feel like crap, at least it’s a great hair day. I posted pics on Instagram (username - Kimblygrace). I was beyond overdue for a cut and color. My hair was an unruly mess and I had about two months of roots. 

On that note, I’m going to bed. I need to recover and fast! Bring on the vitamins and rest!

P.S. The title comes from when I tweeted/instagramed/whatevered that I was in Seal Beach and @emergingthought wrote “so happy it’s the mammal, not the singer.” I got the weirdest visual of like twenty Seals (the singer) laying out on the beach. I guess it stuck with me. 

I watched, I let it burn

I don’t get sick of things easily. This song, for example, has been on repeat since hearing it on Girls. I love that I got my boyfriend into watching that show. Fun fact: His dad actually got me into watching it when I was visiting with his parents in New York. 

Anyway, I’ve been working on my new years goals for the year. I think I’ll do a “check in” post about that soon. It keeps me accountable and I like that. I need that. 

I booked both my trip to Spain AND Vietnam so I’m in ultra conservation mode. That being said, Anna and I are going shopping tomorrow. We may just hit up a thrift or second hand store, but we’ll see. This top was actually acquired at a second hand shop in Sherman Oaks called Rewind. I was going into Buffalo Exchange when I saw it and figured I’d check it out. $8.50 later and I have a new blouse and have curbed the urge to shop! At least for one day. Hooray!

I’ve been a little under the weather recently. It’s going around and I guess it was only a matter of time. Good news is that since work is slower than usual, I’ve had plenty of time to rest and recover. I think (fingers crossed) that I might be better by tomorrow. As soon as I’m well, I will be joining LA Fitness and starting to work out with some of my co-workers. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve definitely worked out more this month than I was averaging last year. But I feel like this will get me into the routine that I so desperately need.

In other news, I’ve been working on stuff for As All Get Out. I’m slowly getting my shit together with these resolutions. I figure at the end of January I’ll do a recap. See what I’ve done, not done, and any changes for the remainder of the year. But first thing on the agenda is to get better and not want to tear out my throat.

Like vines we intertwined

My new roommate saw me change outfits three times the day these photos were taken. After she commented about the many outfit changes, I had two options. Either tell her it’s normal and that I’m basically Beyonce, or tell her the truth. The truth, mind you, is that I will always grab for my jeggings and an AA deep v neck shirt because that is my everyday “uniform.” Since I’m trying to break out of that habit, I was dressing up for a date night with Will. After taking the photos outside and seeing how cold it was, I said fuck it and changed again. This time around, it was the jeggings, my mustard UO sweater, and my Edelman Zoe heels. So I told her truth. I have a feeling she thinks I’m crazy but I’m a creature of comfort. I can’t help it. 

Speaking of comfort, I have a raging sore throat and will be cuddled up in my bed for the rest of the night.

ahh choo

These photos were taken on a glorious day when I was healthy. Since then, I’ve come down with a nasty summer cold. I guess it’s going around. My immune system has failed me and I am single handedly keeping Kleenex in business. I’m pretty much taking all remedies seriously which have included honey with lime juice, squirting silver under my tongue, Neti Pot, and drinking a steady stream of water and tea when I’m awake (which hasn’t been often). The symptoms keep changing though so I think it’s working its way out. I hope so anyway, because my parents are staying with me for the whole month of August and Keiko will be here in a few days. So yea, not the best time to get sick. Oh and that cute little pup is named Belle. She’s a little love. Alright, I need to go lay down. Being sick is not fun.

Rivers and Roads

I have a couple of weeks until my birthday and I still don’t know how I want to celebrate. Two of my good friends will be in Peru for it, which sort of sucks for planning purposes. Honestly, my head is sort of on my New York trip at the end of the month, anyway. I’ll get to see my parents, most if not all of my extended family (I’ll be attending a wedding on each side), meet Will’s parents, and shop/eat/watch Youtube videos with my best friend (hi Babykeiks!). But I know I have to celebrate my birthday somehow before I leave. Even if it’s just me eating a whole Carvel ice cream cake by myself. Come to think of it, that would be an awesome birthday. Noted.

Hold this thread as I walk away…

I’ve been in such a mood today. I have no idea why. I think it’s my level of productiveness… which is at about a zero. But my laundry is in the dryer and the Christmas lights are up so that’s a start. Only took me the whole day to get here. Oh well. I did get news today that I’ll be working a special Hanson event this weekend at work and to celebrate, I listened to Snowed In earlier. SO good. Don’t judge!

The rest of my evening will consist of Papa John’s pizza with my roommate, making some gifts/bows, and just organizing my room. Well, it’ll hopefully consist of all of that. Who knows. Today might just be a wash.

Forget me not, my love…

I love holidays and want them to be perfect and stress free. Unfortunately, things don’t always turn out how I’d like them to. Thanksgiving was one thing after another and I eventually just gave up and went to bed. Best decision. Just start over the next day.

I will say one thing though… I am beyond blessed and thankful for the people in my life. I have amazing parents and some incredible friends. I am constantly amazed by the amount of love and support that surrounds me and I don’t take any of it for granted.

On that note, I’m so happy that Keiko and I were able to take our Nashville trip (more photos on Claudia’s blog). I had the best time and everyone was so nice. Gotta love southern hospitality… and the biscuits. Can’t forget the biscuits… and fried green tomatoes… donuts… meat and threes… mac and cheese… Jeni’s ice cream…. the chicken sandwich at Silly Goose… dammit, now I’m hungry.
