A life worth fighting for…

Disparate Youth by Santigold on Grooveshark

I feel like I’m out of LA as much as I’m in it these days. Will and I went up to New York to visit his family and one of my best friends. It was such a good feeling to be back. There was a lot of eating, shopping, and playing with dogs. My three favorite things. Will’s dad even taught me how to make shortbread since it’s Will’s favorite. Maybe once I get a mixer, you’ll see a little bit more of that.

I’ve always told people that while I love living out here, my trips make it even better. I think it’s good to get out once in a while. It kind of refreshes everything. Ideally, I’d like to just constantly travel. Which I guess I’ve sort of been doing. I had just finished unpacking from New Orleans and had to repack for the next, much colder, trip. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not good at layering. I wore tank top dresses with a coat and hoped for the best. It’s amazing that I didn’t get sick.  Luckily, my next trip is to Florida for the holidays. I’ll be celebrating Christmas, by the pool.

P.S. (Random thoughts) Everyone has this idea in their heads that you need to pick one job to aspire to and do for the rest of your life. What if any job is ok, as long as it allows you to have the kind of life you want?

Never cursed your name…

The Mother We Share by CHVRCHES on Grooveshark

These photos were taken on my trip to New Orleans. It was my first time going and I absolutely loved it. There is so much talent in that city. Street performers on every block and they are SO good! Even bars and restaurants had people playing music in them. There were so many different areas but we were within walking distance to the French Quarter, so we spent a lot of time there. While walking to Frenchman Street one night, we ran into a random block party in the middle of the road. That was definitely one of my highlights of the trip. The cops even came and asked the DJ to lower the music and then left. You can take alcoholic drinks to go and just walk to the next bar with them. And if you want to eat friend dough covered in powdered sugar at three in the morning, Cafe Du Monde is open 24 hours. Not that I did that. I’m just saying…. er…. I’ve heard you can.

P.S. We took a ghost tour the night after these photos were taken and found out that we were super close to the supposedly haunted house from American Horror Story. Some crazy stuff went down in that house! I love a good ghost story.

Colors and leaves…

I was looking through older photos (these are from November), to see which colors I want to put back in my hair on Thursday. I totally forgot to post these, although you may have seen them on Keiko’s blog. She still owes me one more set. I’m going to have to get the blackmail started soon if she doesn’t give them up!

So far, today has been a lazy day of painting panda necklaces and making to do lists in my head. I worked a video game release late last night and completely over slept this morning. So much for being productive on my day off. Tonight is my belated Valentine’s Day date with Will so I better start getting ready and caffeinating. My bed is just so comfy…

Stubborn Love by The Lumineers on Grooveshark

I’ve been listening to a lot of The Lumineers and Icona Pop lately. Good for relaxing and dancing, respectively. The relaxing part is going to be good this week. My mom is in town for the next seven days, so my sister will be hanging around a bit more as well. I love them, but holy crap do they stress me out.

I’ll get a little relief on Wednesday when Will and I go to Lucha Va Voom. If you’re in Los Angeles and you like Mexican wrestling and burlesque, there might still be tickets available. It’s downtown at the Mayan theater and was a riot when I went a few years ago. It’s going to be the first half of our Valentine’s Day celebrating. I think he’s taking me down to Malibu for dinner next week. We don’t like celebrating on actual holidays. All the amateurs are out and I hate angry crowds. I guess I get stressed out easily. Note to self: need to work on that.

Lazy Daze

For our one year anniversary, Will and I decided to go to Hermosa Beach for a mini weekday getaway. Beach towns are my absolute favorite and it was so nice getting out of LA for a bit. We walked down to the beach every day from the hotel and enjoyed just laying out and eating. Definitely my favorite kind of vacations. Also, there was ice cream involved so that ‘s really the only thing needed for me to be happy.

Speaking of getaways, my trip to New York is booked for November. I’ll be flying in to help Keiko with a lookbook shoot and then we’ll be embarking on a mini roadtrip. It’ll be our second annual trip to Nashville with some extra stops along the drive down. Can’t wait to eat all the deliciousness in Nashville again. Bring on Loveless Cafe and Silly Goose!

Responsibility, what’s that?

Responsibility by MxPx on Grooveshark

I skipped going to a co-workers birthday party after work so that I could come home and do this post. I guess that’s part of growing up. Being responsible and all that crap. It’s interesting to look back at different times in my life and see how I’ve changed. When I ran out of socks and underwear in college, I’d run over to Wal-mart and Victoria’s Secret to fix the problem. Now I just do laundry. Weird how that happens. I’m still not going to get my car washed though. I refuse. I think it’s the bit of Florida still in me. There’s so much rain there that it’s pointless.

But anyway, off to bed I go. Tomorrow I’m picking up my friend and her baby from the airport and then going to see the Fun. show at night with some friends. So I guess it’s not all work and responsibility after all.

Don’t take me tongue tied…

Tongue Tied by Grouplove on Grooveshark

I’m usually not one to get excited if something is too far in advance. I think the getting hit by a drunk driver, which resulted in a broken foot a week before one of my Europe trips, might have had something to do with it. Then again, maybe not. But I like to wait until I’m at the destination before I let myself get too excited. That being said, every time this damn song comes on, I start dancing and singing along, all the while daydreaming of how Coachella is going to be. I haven’t even decided if I’m going to go or not. But this song just does that to me.

Other than figuring all of that out, I’ve been nursing a hurt wrist. I guess I got a little over eager at work with the plate carrying and jacked it up something fierce. The Dr. is basically useless (I’m losing faith in some members of the medical field as of late) and I’m sort of on my own with this. I feel like physical therapy might do me some good but he just says to use ice and wait it out. Maybe I’m just impatient. No, I’m definitely impatient… but he’s also not very forthcoming with any useful information. No x-rays or exercises to see if it’s more than a sprain and he spent about 60 seconds talking to me before walking out the door. Thanks doc.

On the plus side, my friend April is flying in tomorrow from Florida. The normal eating, shopping, and dancing will take place which I am beyond excited about. And you know I’ll look super awesome on the dance floor with my wrist guard. I’ve been told it’s a good look for me.

Let the Love Tear Us Apart…

Let’s dance to Joy Division by The Wombats on Grooveshark

These were supposed to go up days ago but my internet was out… my stolen internet. Is that something I’m even allowed to complain about? We should probably just buy it but I swear EVERY TIME I’ve actually paid for it, I feel like it worked worse than when I stole it. Go figure.

I made the mistake of going to LF during their sale and these Kelsi Dagger cuties and my beloved spiked Sam Edelman’s were the result. So much for the shopping freeze. I need to watch it though. Keiko and I are planning trips to visit each other (shopping and eating bills always run high when we’re together) and Jessica has already sent me a proposal for Vietnam to be our 2012 trip.

So no more spending… except that I need a desk and dresser… and maybe some dresses. Oh and then there’s Coachella coming up. I’m camping apparently… we’ll see how that goes. I haven’t camped since I was a girl scout, and even then, we had cabins.
